Types of Inflatable Fabric
Inflatable Fabric is a type of coated fabric that can be used to make inflatable items such as boats and waterpark slides. The coatings provide pliability, weather resistance, durability, and color/opacity.
Common Coated Fabrics for Inflatable Boats
The most common fabrics used in inflatable boats are Hypalon and PVC. These materials are made of synthetic rubber and offer a range of advantages, including excellent dry abrasion and water resistance. They are also durable and long lasting, making them perfect for a variety of uses.
Hypalon (chemically sulfonated Polyethylene)
A highly-durable, chemically resistant coated fabric that is commonly used in industrial applications such as roofing and secondary linings for oil tankers. The material has a high level of dry abrasion and water resistance, as well as excellent UV protection.
It can be welded, glued, and sewn to create inflatable products like waterpark slides, boat trailers, and water toys. It can be a good choice for manufacturing large, heavy-duty inflatables that require a strong exterior fabric.
Neoprene
Another coated fabric often used in inflatable products is neoprene, which is a strong, water-resistant synthetic rubber. It is also lightweight, easy to glue and weld, and offers excellent UV protection.
Neoprene is also durable and has a strong grip on the surface of the water, which helps it resist damage from rocks, sticks, and other rough objects. It can also be shaped into a variety of shapes and designs, making it a popular choice for designing inflatable accessories.
Vinyl
A vinyl-coated fabric is a popular choice for inflatables because it is a very cost-effective way to create an outer shell that is lightweight and strong while offering great pliability and weather resistance. It is available in a wide range of colors and accepts graphics easily.
Drop Stitch
In recent years, drop stitch has become increasingly popular with inflatable manufacturers. It allows manufacturers to inflate their products to a much higher pressure than standard inflatables, making them feel more rigid and sturdy on the water.
However, manufacturers have reported that drop stitching makes the production process more complex. It also increases the risk of leaks and can cause problems when fitting valves into the structure.
The fabric is woven together using thousands of fine polyester threads that are tightly twisted. The threads are then pulled to create a flat surface on the surface of the material, which makes it more rigid and durable.
Unlike other types of inflatables, which have 100% flat surfaces, drop stitch uses an internal fabric to create the shape of the structure. This gives the fabric a very high degree of rigidity and makes it much more efficient on the water.
Custom Inflatables & Characters
Inflatable figures, such as characters, are popular for all sorts of events and promotions. They are a fun and inexpensive way to promote a brand or product, and they can also be used for kids' activities.
