How to choose high waterproof grade PVC Tarpaulins for construction sites?

When choosing high waterproof grade PVC tarpaulins for construction sites, you can consider the following aspects:

1. Material quality
PVC coating quality
High-quality PVC coating is the key to waterproof performance. High-quality PVC coating usually has better adhesion and uniformity. It can be preliminarily judged by observing the thickness of the coating and the smoothness of the surface. Generally speaking, PVC tarpaulins with a coating thickness of more than 0.5 mm will have more reliable waterproof performance.
The flexibility of the coating is also important. On construction sites, PVC tarpaulins may be subjected to various external forces, such as wind blowing, collision of objects, etc. The flexible coating can withstand these external forces to a certain extent without cracking or falling off, thereby maintaining waterproof performance. The flexibility of the coating can be tested by bending and twisting the tarpaulin by hand.
Base fabric material
The base fabric is the supporting structure of the PVC tarpaulin, and its quality directly affects the overall performance of the tarpaulin. Common base fabric materials include polyester fiber, polypropylene, etc. Polyester fiber base fabric has high strength and good durability, and is suitable for use in environments such as construction sites that require high strength. The polypropylene base fabric is relatively light, but slightly weaker in strength.
The weaving density of the base fabric is also critical. High-density woven base fabric can better combine with PVC coating to improve the tear resistance and waterproofness of the waterproof fabric. The weaving density of the base fabric can be judged by observing the texture of the base fabric. The tighter the texture, the higher the weaving density.

2. Waterproof performance test
Water column pressure test
This is a commonly used method to test waterproof performance. The PVC tarpaulin is fixed to a device, and then a certain height of water column pressure is applied to its surface. The higher the water column height that the tarpaulin can withstand, the better its waterproof performance. Generally speaking, the water column pressure test value of PVC tarpaulins used on construction sites should reach more than 1000 mm, which can effectively prevent rainwater from penetrating.
Immersion test
Soak the PVC tarpaulin sample in water for a period of time (such as 24 hours), and then observe whether it has leakage. High-quality PVC tarpaulins will not have obvious water stains or leakage points on the surface after soaking. The immersion test can detect the waterproof stability of the tarpaulin under long-term contact with water.

3. Size and Specifications
Dimensional stability
The environment of the construction site is complex and the temperature changes greatly. High-quality PVC tarpaulins should have less dimensional changes when the temperature changes. This can be judged by checking the indicators of dimensional stability in the product manual. Generally speaking, a dimensional change rate of less than 1% is ideal.
Specification selection
Choose the appropriate specifications according to the actual needs of the construction site. For example, if it is used for an open-air material storage area on a large construction site, a larger PVC tarpaulin may be required to cover it. At the same time, the thickness of the tarpaulin also needs to be considered. Thicker tarpaulins (such as those with a thickness of more than 0.3 mm) are generally more durable, but the price will also be relatively high.

4. Additional functions
UV resistance
Construction sites are usually exposed to sunlight, and ultraviolet rays will have an aging effect on PVC tarpaulins. PVC tarpaulins with UV resistance can extend their service life to a certain extent. The UV resistance of the product can be judged by checking whether UV resistance additives have been added.
Fire resistance
Fire safety is very important on construction sites. Choosing PVC tarpaulins with certain fire resistance can reduce the risk of fire. You can check whether the product complies with relevant fire protection standards, such as whether it has passed the building material fire rating test.
